The Ford Mustang GTD has officially arrived at GGS Motorsports, and this is one delivery we have been looking forward to sharing. From the moment the cover began to come off, it was clear this wasn't going to feel like an ordinary Mustang reveal.
We captured the entire unwrapping experience on video, giving you a first look at one of the most extraordinary Mustangs Ford has ever created.
From Mustang to American Supercar
The Mustang GTD represents a very different approach to the Mustang formula. Ford developed the GTD alongside the Mustang GT3 race car, incorporating motorsports technology into a street-legal performance machine. Ford itself describes the GTD as its first Mustang supercar.
At its heart is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 815 horsepower. But the GTD story goes far beyond horsepower.
Carbon-fiber body construction, a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle, carbon-fiber driveshaft, carbon-ceramic brakes and sophisticated suspension technology were engineered around one objective: performance.
This isn't simply a more powerful Mustang. It represents what can happen when Mustang heritage, modern engineering and Ford's racing experience are brought together without following the traditional limits of a road-going Mustang.
Proven at the Nürburgring
The GTD has the performance credentials to back up its appearance.
Ford initially took the Mustang GTD around Germany's legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:57.685, making it the first production sports car from an American automaker to record an officially certified sub-seven-minute lap. Ford later returned with an updated GTD and improved that time to 6:52.072.
That achievement helps put into perspective just how serious this car is.
The massive aerodynamic elements aren't simply there to attract attention. The available active aerodynamics, suspension technology and extensive use of lightweight materials were developed to help the GTD perform at an exceptionally high level on a racetrack.
